Marvel Super Heroes 1966 Captain America Lakeside with Shield

The 1960s was a different time - when toy companies didn't market and license everything in sight.  And these companies didn't have a need to as the 'generic' toys did fairly well.  All things changed when Marx became one of the leaders in recognizing the marketing potential of licensed characters.  They introduced many toy lines that had the likenesses of the heroes that populated the (still quite young) Marvel universe.  While Marx dominated the Marvel Super Heroes toy market, there were a few other companies that snuck in a toy line or two.  Lakeside Inudstries was a company that specialized in bendable rubber flat figures they dubbed "Super Flex".  In 1966, they added a 6" bendable Captain America to this line - complete with removable shield.   Lakeside molded the figure in blue and painted on the red shoes and white vertical waist stripes.  We've noted they used two different blues for the base rubber - a very dark blue and a light, sky blue.  The figure must not have been a great selling item as it's the only character they licensed from Marvel.  And the figure is actually fairly tough to find today.

This is an ORIGINAL 1966 Lakeside Captain America!
